Rather than map out a vision for you to experience this, I am going to tell you the nuts and bolts of it so that you can construct your own vision. The way a vision works is you first build something using the imagination. But the imagination is not the end product, it is the vehicle that allows you soul freedom; it is the window through which your spirit can pass as it adventures into the other worlds. Some traditions use songs to loosen the spirit.
Here on the reservation I have spent many an afternoon and evening in the sweat house with the medicine man singing. The heat and the song catapult my spirit right out there every time. It was a weird experience at first because I was not used to it and I didn’t think it would work like that; I wasn’t expecting it so I got a real shock when I found myself suddenly thrust into the inner worlds.
I was expecting the sweat to just cleanse me. I didn’t expect to be suddenly in a long and involved conversation with the Tou’piah ( GreatGrandmother) of the lodge. That doesn’t mean I have converted to Native religion; rather it means that once you are a priest or priestess you can go anywhere and work with anything as long as you respect it and do not try to interfere or adopt something simply because it takes your fancy.
Though if you are working with power at this level, I very much doubt if you would fall into the category of culture tourists that drive so many religions and tribal people nuts. I go to the lodge only because I live here and I was invited by the tribal family members to sweat with them. The medicine man was as surprised as I was that I was triggered in the lodge and we have had some very long detailed and fascinating conversations since about power, spirits and inner contacts. Since that time we have worked together on some fascinating projects; like a sort of inner contact culture exchange!
But back to constructing visions. So you understand that visions are not just your imagination. To become an inner contact is simple. Light your flame, go into the convocation. Circle around the convocation until you reach the direction that you should be working in. Don’t ask for help in this. There comes a time when you have to just get out there and work without relying on someone to hold your hand.
Once you are in the direction you can feel you are supposed to be working in, step over the threshold with the intent of going where you are needed. Remember, the four temples are the parent temples of all temples that have ever existed. You can access any temple, sacred space or ceremonial gathering through the four temples.
So you have stepped over the threshold with the intent of going to work as an inner contact. Now, intent is everything. Intent is the GPS system that makes sure you are where you are supposed to be, so have a very clear intent about what you are doing. You are going to be an inner contact where someone has requested one.
You will find yourself either on the far side of an altar ( with a human on the other side waiting to work with you), or you will have emerged in a ceremony, ritual, prayer; where ever people have come together formally and are doing inner work. You will know what to do, and if you don’t, don’t panic. Just go with it and you will figure it out and learn as you are going along.
To get back out, return back the way you came, crossing over the threshold. If you can’t find it, remember the convocation and the thresholds will appear in the directions.
It is all about focus, discipline and intent. Experiment. Sometimes it will be stronger than others. If you work in a group it is always stronger, the group energy is so much better to work with. A good exercise is to put four altars in the four directions with four candles on them. Have a fifth altar in the center with a candle on it. Starting in the east ( always start in the east) light the candle using the lighting candle method. Repeat the process going around the directions south, west north and then center. You have re created the power pattern of the four temples.
Now, go to the east and commune there silently. Reach out for an inner contact in each direction. If you are working in a group, as soon as one leaves the east, the next one goes there, so eventually there is someone in every direction. When you have finished at the north, go to the center and commune with the central flame. This is a simple structure that is used throughout western magic and spiritual orders in a variety of ways.
Once you have gotten used to working this way, then go in vision with the intent to appear at a ceremonial working as an inner contact and see how it feels to be on the other side of the candle. Not only will it teach you many things about the directions and power, it will also teach you that inner contacts are just that; they are not high ascended masters 6th degree to the left or ‘special’ in anyway. They are like you and me; spirits in service to Divine Being in all its wonderful forms. That might not be as glamorous as claiming you are channeling high truths from ancient masters, but it will keep your feet on the ground and remind you that we are all just priests and priestesses. I have sadly seen some people whom I have admired, and loved even; go down that road of grandeur and ego. And I have watched it destroy them and turn them into caricatures of themselves. Very sad.
Inner temple/ inner contact work is the most fulfilling work I have done. It’s not always the most interesting, but it seems to be the area that needs the most work.
