Light a candle and close your eyes. With your inner vision, see the candle flame before you and be aware of the flame that burns deep within you. Using your inner vision, see the animal before you and reach into the body. Coax the animal to step out and follow you. Together, you watch the candle flame fall down into the underworld and you both follow. You may need to carry the animal in your arms.
Together you fall through the rock and the earth, down and down leaving the surface world behind. Down and down you fall until you land softly on dried herbs and grasses. You find yourself outside a cave entrance that is draped with a rich soft cloth. Many gifts are pinned on the cloth; you must reach into your pocket and take out a gift. Whatever you find in your hand, you must pin to the cloth. (If it is something you have in real life, you should offer it to the Goddess by parting with it).
Together you enter the cave: there is a deep pool of water in the center. Beyond the pool is a crack in the rock, just large enough to squeeze through. Together, you kneel by the pool of water. Assist the animal in drinking from the pool until they have quenched their thirst.
The sound of footsteps echoes around the cave and as you look up you see an old woman with long gray hair emerge out of the crack in the rock. She is clothed in a dark robe with a deep hood that covers most of her face. As she gets nearer, you see that her skin is made from bark and leaves. Behind her are many priestesses who wait and watch.
The Goddess stretches out her hand and touches the animal in your arms. The animal awakens, and jumps from your arms to be at the feet of the ancient Goddess. The priestesses gather around, and as you look closely, you see many small creatures hidden among the robes of the women.
The animal is picked up by the Goddess and hidden among her robes. The Goddess reaches out and touches you on the forehead before withdrawing back through the crack in the wall. The priestesses follow until you are left alone in the cave.
As you are about to leave, you see a movement in the shadows. Straining to see, the movement comes out of the shadow and you find yourself before a faery being of the Underworld.
They reach out in friendship to you and tell you that they will stay with you for a while and teach you about the animals and creatures of the surface world.
They take your hand and lead you up a steep stone stairway that emerges back in the space where you first started. You find yourself before the flame with your faery companion and commune with them briefly before sitting down. When you are ready, you blow out the flame.
